European expertise for a safe and innovative pipeline infrastructure
Why decision-makers in the pipework industry should focus on European products
Our associations represent the German and European industry for the production of steel pipes and pipe fittings. In the face of global challenges, we show why pipes, fittings and flanges from European production offer decisive advantages – especially for engineers and commercial decision-makers in management.
Currently, more and more components are being produced outside Europe – with far-reaching consequences for security of supply, efficiency and sustainability.
- Security of supply and predictability
European production capacities guarantee maximum delivery reliability and short response times. Past crises – from the coronavirus pandemic to geopolitical conflicts – have shown how fragile global supply chains are. European in-house production ensures the rapid provision of essential components. One example: without local manufacturers, the construction of the Wilhelmshaven connection pipeline could not have been realised in just eight months. - Stable supply chains for long-term success
Effective cooperation is based on stable and proven supplier relationships. Direct dialogue with established partners in Europe reduces planning and coordination costs. Uniform technical standards and cultural proximity minimise the risk of miscommunication. A single weak link can jeopardise the entire supply chain – EU production significantly reduces this risk. - Highest quality and safety standards
Our production sites in Europe fulfil strict standards and safety requirements. Environmental, safety and health standards (ESHG) are an integral part of our production processes and guarantee the highest level of product quality and sustainability. - Innovative strength for future-proof piping systems
European manufacturers focus on the continuous development of their products and manufacturing processes. Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies and improved material properties, we increase the durability and safety of our products – far beyond the minimum legal requirements and have transparent traceability of the product documentation. - CO2 reduction through regional value creation
From 2026, the CBAM regulation will come into force, which will make CO2 costs for imports from third countries considerably more expensive. A price increase of around 30% is expected. This will not only make EU production more competitive, but will also actively contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. Short transport routes and reduced safety stocks lower indirect costs and downtimes.
Conclusion: An investment in the future Steel pipes and pipe fittings are the foundation of the energy infrastructure. European industry plays a central role in the realisation of the energy transition – especially in the area of hydrogen and CO2 pipelines. In order to maintain this technological independence, an EU minimum value added is essential.
